New Blog for Exciting Project

December 5, 2009

Welcome to my very first blog entry! Here, I’ll be writing about the things that happen as I direct collaborative dances, co-created by humans and dolphins and capture them on film and video. I’m excited for what I imagine will be an experience of a lifetime.

This  is the first bit of video shot for the project. I shot it myself (on a so-so camera, sorry!) in October at Kealekekua Bay, a lovely spot on the Kona coast of Hawaii (Big Island). I was fortunate enough to see many beautiful Spinner dolphins there, in pods of 30 or more. Several of the Spinners who were particularly playful even engaged me in a few ‘snuggly’ dances! And of course, we also played the ‘leaf game’…

In part, I went to Kona to meet Lisa Denning, a videographer who was introduced to me by my friend Kimio. Lisa has extensive experience shooting dolphins (and other marine life). I’m really looking forward to working with Lisa on this project! Please take a look at her site…her work is wonderful…she has a great feel for dolphin dancing.

Soon, I will be going back to Kona to shoot pilot footage for the Dolphin Dance project. Loui Terrier will be joining me and recording all that happens out of the water, and to work with me on creating a jammin’ trailer with our pilot footage.

Meantime, there is much planning to do…and also much fund raising to do. Please consider making a donation to support the Dolphin Dance project (just click here)…no amount is too small!

Thank you so much for reading my blog. Please consider subscribing to the RSS feed, so you will know when there are updates.  And visit the web site for the project at http://www.dolphin-dance.org/ where you can join our mailing list.

Happy Holidays…and much dolphin love to all!
